Blue Light Card: Eligibility and how to apply

Homelessness and housing support workers in Wales are now eligible for the Blue Light Card!

Over the last few months, Cymorth Cymru has been working with the Blue Light Card, Homewards and other partners to ensure that your incredible work gets the recognition it deserves. We are delighted that you can now access a range of exclusive experiences, discounts and rewards.

What is the Blue Light Card?

Blue Light Card is the nation’s leading discount provider for the emergency services, NHS, social care sector and armed forces. It has over 4 million members from across the UK and 15,000+ brand partners across 20+ sectors from everyday essentials, leisure to technology, to retail and holidays – and many more. Last year, Blue Light Card members saved an incredible £330 million in the UK.

Who is eligible?

Now that the Blue Light Card has been expanded to the homelessness workforce, the following people are eligible:

1. Staff employed by organisations that work directly on homelessness across the UK.

Cymorth Cymru has provided the Blue Light Card with a list of our third sector members whose work is mostly focused on homelessness and housing support. All staff working for these organisations will be eligible, and will only need to provide their work email address to verify their eligibility.

2. Staff working directly on homelessness but employed by organisations with a broader focus beyond homelessness.

This includes organisations such as housing associations, local councils and non-homelessness third sector organisations. Staff working for these organisations will have to provide additional evidence that they undertake a role focused on preventing or alleviating homelessness, such as a work ID card or payslip. We have provided the Blue Light Card with a list of examples of the type of roles that would be eligible. This is not an exhaustive list, but includes roles such as:

  • Floating support worker
  • Housing options worker
  • Homelessness prevention worker
  • Housing First worker
  • Rapid rehousing worker
  • Rough sleeping outreach worker
  • Supported accommodation worker
  • Supported living worker
  • Tenancy support worker

Please note: We have provided the Blue Light Card with a list of our member organisations and local authorities in Wales, and these have been loaded onto their system. If your organisation is not a member of Cymorth, you will need to provide further information to the Blue Light Card, so they can verify whether your organisation and role are eligible.
