The Welsh Government’s Final Budget for 2024/25 has been published today, and the headline news for homelessness and housing support services is that we have secured additional funding for the Housing Support Grant.
- Draft Budget – Homelessness Support and Prevention: £214,910
- Final Budget – Homelessness Support and Prevention: £219,910
The budget documentation shows that the ‘Homelessness Support and Prevention’ budget line has been increased by £5million and we have been told this will be allocated to the Housing Support Grant. While this falls short of the amount we were calling for, we want to assure members that we are still working to secure additional funding for the HSG.
Following our meeting with the Minister in early January, we are continuing to have positive conversations with Welsh Government officials to explore whether additional funding from within this budget line can be allocated to the Housing Support Grant. We will keep our members updated over the coming days.
In response to the Welsh Government’s Final Budget for 2024/25, Cymorth Cymru Director Katie Dalton said:
“We have been clear over the last few months that homelessness and housing support services are in dire need of additional funding in order to avoid service closures and ensure that critical frontline staff receive a fair wage for their exceptional work.
“We are pleased to see the £5 million increase to the Homelessness Support and Prevention section of the Welsh Government’s Final Budget for 2024/25.
“We continue to have positive discussions with the Welsh Government to explore whether additional funding within this budget can be allocated to the Housing Support Grant to ensure these vital services get the resources they need.”
